Minutes of the Cape Town APF
Steering Committee
held 15th October 2001, SAMWU
branch office
1. National Exploratory Workshop
The National Exploratory Workshop has been postponed. The new dates are 30th November till 2nd December 2001 in Johannesburg. There is a very strong possibility that Gauteng will get an international funder to cover most of the costs but the funder could not give the money this month. Comrades who are delegates please keep those dates free. The Steering Committee said we support the postponement on the grounds of funding.
2. Fundraising for NEW
SAMWU will sponsor 2 kombis – transport for 20 delegates. The last plenary decided on 33 delegates. We still need another kombi. The Steering Committee suggests that this be funded from the R1000 donation that each APF participating organisation was asked to make. So far only WOSA and APDUSA have responded positively. Please can the other organisations respond to Sandra [4488214], Peter [7613181] or Anna [6971153].
3. Further preparations for the NEW
Comrades will recall that the last plenary delegated organisations to pull together APF position documents on land, water, housing, health, energy and education which we will take to NEW. The deadline for these to Sandra was yesterday. So far nothing received. The Steering Comm extended the deadline to Friday 19th October 2001. In this light, the Steering Comm postponed this Saturday’s plenary – supposed to take place 20th October, will now take place next Saturday 27th October. This plenary will be the forum to debate and finalise the positions submitted. All will be notified by phone. Agenda will go out next Tuesday.

5. IDP Process – matter of grave concern
The APF media committee is finalising our pamphlet on the IDP attacking the Unicity’s superficial process. SAMWU Branch was shocked to learn on Friday in Unicity documents that the dates for the public hearings in communities are nearly over, they have not been advertised, and not many people can have attended. Elena pointed out that during the last process at the public meeting in Khayelitsha only 5 SAMWU shopstewards turned up, and in Goodwood 15 people turned up but most were councillors. The Unicity still passed this off as legitimate consultation. The Steering Comm agreed we cannot allow this. SAMWU will take up the issue. There are still some hearings next week that we can attend, please contact Anna if you want the dates. The Steering Committee mandated the media committee to release a statement today. It would be helpful if other organisations released their own statements too.
The next Steering Committee is at 6pm, SAMWU branch offices, Monday 22nd October ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!
Stumble It!
