Residents who were evicted from homes at the N2 Gateway housing project in Delft have demanded their grievances be addressed.

Dozens of people were still living in temporary shelters along Symphony Way, more than a year after they were forcibly removed from the houses.
The invasion happened in December 2007, apparently incited by a local Democratic Alliance councillor.

Last week, disgruntled locals staged a demonstration and held a vigil.

The Western Cape anti-eviction campaign’s Ashraf Cassiem said residents were tired of empty promises from government, both national and local.

“The different parties, they used this case for their own advantage. Nobody came up with a plan. Even the housing department; they didn’t have a plan a year ago and they still don’t have a plan now.”
