Two illegal evictions succesfully defended

Press Statement by the Gugulethu Anti-Eviction Campaign and AbM-WC

Abahlali baseMjondolo of the Western Cape and Gugulethu Anti-eviction successfully defended two unlawful evictions today at Gugulethu.

First evcition was carried by private property developer who claimed to have bought the house at Ngawe road Nyanga East.
The second evection was carried by ENGR INVESTMENTS, intersting both evictions were carried by the same sheriff of the court and the un identified security company was used to guard the houses, and it was the same security guys in both houses and they identified themselves as securities and during the conversation they identify themselves as police officers who do security work during their off days.

The second evection took place at NY 82 no 16 where invalid court order was used to evect the family and the order its self was not addressed to the current ocupiers of the house but it was addressed to the previous owner of the house which bought the house on auction and he (the previous owner) never occupied the house at all. Urgent illegal Eviction in Gugulethu

Currently Abahlali baseMjondolo of the Western Cape with the Support of Gugulethu Anti-eviction Campaign is resisting an illegal eviction
that takes place at Gugulethu NY 82 no 16. The current owner of the house passed away last week due to stress that he suffered from this eviction threat and he (the owner of the house) was a pensioner.

He is not even buried but the the new owner of the house continues with the eviction.

Protest Day 1: A call for Madikizela, MEC for Human Settlement to resign

PROTEST DAY ONE

Last week Abahlali baseMjondolo Western Cape made a call to MEC for human settlement M.R Bonginkosi Madikizela to sign an undertaking that he will never, ever again within the Western Cape Province demolish or evict people without any order from the court.

This follows number of illegal activities and intimidation carried by his office lead by him. ABM WC gave him seven working days to respond, and as an organization we were only expecting him to sign an undertaking that says he will not demolish people’s structures without following legal rout and a failure to sign such undertaking it simply shows that he is arrogant and thinks that he is above the law. Police and MEC Madikizela in Mandela Park destroying brick houses

According to reports from Backyarder members in Mandela Park, MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela was in Mandela Park earlier today with police and Anti-Land Invasions workers with the intention of destroying a number of brick houses built by poor community members.

As we speak, authorities are demolishing both brick houses and shacks.  We think by the end of the day, we think 8 homes will have been destroyed

Community members used a huge amount of their savings to build these houses and the MEC is now threatening to put them back in shacks in other people’s backyarders.

Why is the MEC for Housing destroying our houses?

Media: NGO claims eviction of families was unlawful

THE Anti Eviction Campaign has rejected the council’s claim that it removed 16 families from the Blikkiesdorp temporary relocation area because they were living there illegally.

The NGO, which fights for the rights of the city’s homeless, claimed the forced eviction was illegal.
